Hello SGTC members!
There are a few announcements and reminders that are important for you to know:
- If you have not already paid your 2011 SGTC membership and completed a new application form, you have until Jan. 31st to complete it with the payment in order to not have to pay an increased fee and to also get your name and information on the membership roster that Anna is working on. The membership roster will be coming out in February-March, so please make sure you turn in your money and application form! If you are coming to the courts this Saturday, January 29th, any of the board members can help collect the money and the application. Even if all of your information is the same as last year, it is imperative for you to complete a new application form.
- The SGTC Board met this past weekend to help meet the needs of the SGTC members, which is to make sure they have courts available for you to enjoy a nice Saturday morning of tennis. We are currently finalizing the interclub and intraclub tournaments and the 2011 calendar so please make sure you check your email in the coming months for updates on when the tournaments will be happening.
- In order to keep up with the new fees imposed by the Alhambra school district this year and to make sure the club is able to provide refreshments and new cans of balls at the scramble tournaments, every scramble month (the first week of each month), SGTC will be collecting a nominal fee of $1 from each member in order to help us with the increasing fees and to pay for tennis balls, refreshments, and the scramble trophies. So please remember to bring change on February 5th and place $1 in the money bag when you sign in for the scramble. SGTC appreciates every member and the board is striving to provide the best service to its members to have an enjoyable tennis time.
- There is also a change to the scramble tournament. We are now making the minimum amount of sets men and women must play in order to be considered for the end-of-the-year scramble prizes from 60% to 50% of sets played.
Now for the fun updates!
- Our first intraclub tournament is tentatively planned to be held on March 12th. However, further details will be provided by Amber Marsden, our Intraclub Tournament Coordinator in the next few weeks, but please make not our first true intraclub tournament is two months away!
- Sandy Lee has volunteered to run a 12-person mini tournament on Saturday, February 12th. It will be a first-come, first-serve basis. Sandy ran this type of tournament at Victory Park once while our last year's board was still negotiating for the San Gabriel High School courts. Sandy will provide more information and ask for sign-ups through email in the next few days. It will be a fun small tournament that will use 3 courts and the level will range from 3.0-3.5. Partners will rotate so you will get to play with someone different each round. If you sign up too late and can't play in the tournament, that's no problem at all! We will still have 6 courts open for free play on Saturday, February 12th. As mentioned earlier, Sandy will provide you more information so look out for her email in the next few days.
After the board meeting this past weekend, I can honestly say that this year looks like it's going to be a fun year filled with activities. We thank you for all of your patience and commitment of coming out to SGTC to play on Saturday.
I hope to see everyone on the courts if not this weekend, the next weekends to come!
As always, if you ever have any concerns or questions or suggestions, do not hesitate to contact me. I am more than happy to listen to your requests and ideas.
